Saskatchewan Provincial Parks received a $5 million boost for 2008-09.  Enhancements, such as an additional 1,000 electrified campsites over the next four years, will help meet visitor demand and improve camping opportunities and experiences.

Since 1999, the Government of Saskatchewan has supported the cultural industries through the Cultural Industries Development Fund (CIDF).

The recently-completed Music Industry Review, led by Legislative Secretary Joanne Crofford, recognized systemic barriers to success that are common to the cultural industries, which include music, film and video, book publishing, and the visual arts.  As a result of this review, the CIDF will not be renewed in 2008-09.

An industrial development fund will rise in place of the CIDF.  The new fund, which will be administered by the Saskatchewan Arts Board, will improve planning and business readiness in the cultural industries; it will support access to a Revolving Investment Fund, which will provide small business loans and equity investments to businesses, organizations, and individuals working in the cultural industries.

Government looks forward to developing a new relationship with the cultural industry associations, formerly responsible for the management of the CIDF.  These agencies include: SaskMusic, the Saskatchewan Motion Picture Association, the Saskatchewan Publishers Group, the Saskatchewan Craft Council, and the Canadian Artists' Representation/Le front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC).
