Did You Know?

Visitors to Saskatchewan parks will save about $375,000 annually with the elimination of campfire permit fees.  The $3-per-day fee was introduced in provincial parks in 2003 and removed as of April 1, 2008.

The Gemini Awards to be held in Regina

This year “Saskatchewan is Rolling out the Red Carpet” to host the 22nd Annual Gemini Awards.
Saskatchewan is known throughout the production industry as a great place for film and television,” Premier Lorne Calvert said. “Our competitive tax credit, our abundance of natural beauty and our state-of-the-art production facilities have brought us centre stage. It is our pleasure to welcome the nation in 2007.” This year there are 16 Saskatchewan nominees! (see table attached)

The Host Committee has plans “to ‘wow’ the nation and once again demonstrate what a great place Saskatchewan is to work, live, and play,” said JP Ellson, CEO of the Regina Hotel Association.  Along with hosting the big event, Saskatchewan’s film and television industry is planning on tapping into the many opportunities the Gemini’s will bring.

This is the second year that the Gemini Awards have been held outside Toronto and will be the first time that the public can purchase tickets – thanks to the generous seating capacity of the Conexus Arts Centre.  This year’s broadcast host is The Hour's George Stroumboulopoulos.

CYR congratulates all Saskatchewan Gemini Nominees and wishes them all good luck at the 22nd Annual Gemini Awards in Regina, at the Conexus Art Centre, on October 28, 2007.
