Water Recreation

Last Mountain Lake is southern Saskatchewan’s largest natural lake.  Also called Long Lake for this reason, it is famous for great fishing, sailing and all sorts of water recreation.

Swimming:  The recreation park has one of the longest and safest sand beaches of any lake in southern Saskatchewan.  Wrapping around both sides of a long sandpit, so that no matter what direction the wind blows, there is always a protected area for water sports.  Also located on the beach is a volleyball court and children’s creative playground equipment.

Fishing:  Last Mountain Lake and Trout Pond - Imagine, if you’re an angler, a place you can drive to, on paved highways with excellent facilities for launching a boat.  Continue this imagination with the idea that, within a few minutes of being on the water, and with a bit of effort and knowledge, you have at least a fifty percent chance of catching a trophy Walleye.  This is what Last Mountain Lake has to offer.  Other species include Perch, Pike, Burbot, Whitefish, Carp and Buffalo Fish.  Walleye over 14 pounds, Pike over 25 pounds and Carp over 40 pounds are not uncommon.  During the winter the lake also offers great ice fishing opportunities.

A fishing licence is required for persons 16 years of age and over and can be purchased at the campground office or at the Marina store.  Anglers’ Guides are also available here.  Be sure to ask for a free “fishing licence” for the kids, too!

The Trout Pond affords good fishing for trout without having to use a boat.  (Sorry, closed for maintenance.)

Boat Launch/Marina:  With a vast expanse of water to explore, Last Mountain Lake offers pleasure boaters and water skiers a great deal.  The lake is large, long and wide open to prevailing winds, making it a haven for sailboaters.  A first class marina is located in Rowan’s Ravine Provincial Park.  Boat launching facility is excellent and you can dock your boat in one of the 85 slips available overnight or for the season.  Boat gas also available.  No boats within buoyed area at main beach.

Enjoy cycling on paved roads throughout the park and campground area.  Bicycle rentals are available at the mini-golf.

Fun for all ages!  Located at the beach parking lot, this privately-operated facility is open May to September long weekend.  Bicycle rentals are also available here.

Prairie Whispers Nature Trail:  Enjoy a self-guided hiking tour and see some of the natural vegetation in this area of the province.  A wide variety of flora and fauna is evident.  Stop by our park office for a trail map or more information.

An assortment of recreation equipment is available to borrow most afternoons from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., located at the beach change house.
