Combining tourism and parks with culture and sport in a new ministry reflects the government's priorities and focuses strategically on tourism enhancement, quality of life and economic growth.
Tourism Saskatchewan is a board-driven, membership-based, industry/government partnership and, as such, was the first model of its kind in Canada. Its creation paved the way for other provinces and territories to develop their own tourism bodies. A key component of this model, and a strength of the organization, is its 2,000-strong membership. Working with industry members, government partners and a variety of stakeholders, Tourism Saskatchewan leads programs and initiatives across a broad range of areas reflecting its mandate: marketing, education, training, visitor services, industry development, research, member services and more. Contributing well over $1 billion annually to the provincial economy, tourism is one of Saskatchewan’s most rapidly growing industries. More than 55,000 Saskatchewan people are employed in tourism and tourism-related activities. More than 4,300 events and tourism-related businesses host an estimated 8.6 million visits annually. Tourism Saskatchewan delivers core support to this burgeoning industry, and the resulting economic growth and social development benefit our province and all of its citizens.
